Its name, “Al Rihla,” translates to “The Journey” in Arabic, symbolizing the ball’s role in the global journey of football. Designed for optimal performance, it was the first World Cup ball to feature connected ball technology, providing real-time data to assist in accurate offside decisions.

• Connected Ball Technology: Equipped with an inertial measurement unit inside the bladder, the Al Rihla ball supplied Video Assistant Referees (VAR) with precise ball movement data at a rate of 500 times per second, aiding in fast and accurate offside calls. 

• Speedshell Panel Shape: The ball featured a new panel shape combining texturing and diamond debossing, enhancing swerve and accuracy, and allowing for faster flight speeds. 

• Sustainability: Produced with water-based inks and glues, Al Rihla was designed with sustainability in mind, making it the first FIFA World Cup official match ball to be created with environmentally friendly materials. 

• Design Inspiration: The ball’s design was inspired by Qatar’s culture, architecture, and traditional dhow boats, reflecting the host nation’s heritage. 

• Production: Manufactured in Sialkot, Pakistan, and Madiun, Indonesia, the Al Rihla ball was produced by Forward Sports and Global Way, with over 300,000 balls made for the tournament.
